YetepRising star SKILAH is known for her live streams, unique social media presence, and numerous industry cosigns. Her danceable tracks are groovy, well-layered, and an expression of her inner confidence. Her newest single “Molotov” is a collaboration with newcomer RYUMA and captures the energy of an ignited dance floor. The lyrics are laced with symbolism and metaphors to describe the intense feelings that can come with meeting a new dance partner for the night.
“You know I can’t stop. Let your body talk. Gonna heat it up all night just like a molotov. Wanna make it hot take it to the top. Gonna heat it up all night just like a molotov.”
The beat starts out with thumping bass, crisp hi-hats, and crunchy sound elements. A steady undercurrent builds under the beat as shimmering waves and drum blasts radiate out in all directions. This leads directly into the first drop: A weaving masterpiece with growling bass and an undeniable groove. Alarms, cowbell, and fluttering synth create a diverse soundscape for the listener. Sharp, choppy bars are woven in for good measure. The bassline intensifies as the claps and cowbell transform into hard-hitting kicks and claps. All while asking the important questions:
“Tell me can you keep it up? Turning up the temperature. Can you take the heat baby? Can you take the heat?”
The walls begin to close in around the track before exploding into weaving, dark bass that flutters off into the distance, only to return again and close out the track.
“Molotov” is the perfect introduction for RYUMA and a great evolution of SKILAH’s sound. She is able to effortlessly mix the dark, moody sounds of Techno with the shimmering grooves of House into her own brand. SKILAH continues to extend her reach and fanbase, currently sitting at 642k Instagram followers. I cannot wait to see what she does next!
