YetepI recently discovered Russian Producer/DJ Jon.K through a post on Instagram Reels, my regular source for finding new artists. The song in reel was “LMTAbout,” a single who’s cover art features a psychedelic cat that resembles Garfield. “LMTAbout” begins with claps, rhythmic ticking, and a funky guitar riff. Trap synths crash in and out of the evolving beat and distorted vocal samples. The beat steadily rises to a crescendo before dropping back in to the loop. Vocals become more distorted as the track speeds up.
The song breaks into a wobbling, full-bodied groove while soaring vocals take center stage and ride the rolling riffs. We briefly return to the distorted hook before taking another unexpected turn. Vocals return, complimented by the guitar riff and sputtering bass.
“You say you want me. You say you need me. You say you love me. How can you leave it?”
The song revs up once again with thick Trap waves and supersonic lasers before returning to the loop (with an additional Trap layer). “LMTAbout” closes out with different vocals that subtly switch up the melody and plenty of cowbell. What a SERIOUS RUSH!
“LMTAbout” is full of surprises and keeps you guessing throughout the run time. The infectious groove and multi genre elements create a unique and unforgettable track. This is one of the most memorable first impressions of an artist that I have ever experienced.
“Fronchitella” is another notable Jon.K single. The cover art features a surreal spin-off of Courage from Courage The Cowardly Dog. We are already at a GREAT start! “Fronchitella” begins with instant kick drums, basslines, and electric pulses. The kicks are complimented by light percussion and clap effects. The bassline evolves into full-on synth waves and back again. Clapping intensifies as vocals enter the frame. The lyrics reminisce about “the things we used to say” over a funky beat. These vocals become heavily distorted before the synth and bass take over. Things COMPLETELY change up around the three minute mark, briefly taking on a bit of a darker sound. The track becomes extra funky in its final minutes before gradually fading out.
Jon.K is a master of progressive tracks and unexpected transitions. He can effortlessly switch between vibes and sounds, creating unique songs that take you on a journey. The cover art for his releases are just as surreal as his production style, drawing in curious listeners. Other songs worth checking out include Frank Sinatra, 10.pm, and Absolute Disarray. His extensive discography provides listeners with hours (or even days) worth of vibes. Check out this one-of-a-kind artist ASAP! You will not regret it!
