Nostalgix is scheduled to appear at Sunbar this Saturday, April 18th. The show is 21+ and tickets can be found HERE!
Her outstanding talents in the studio and behind the decks have created hype and anticipation for her first full-length release. The album has arrived, a 10-track journey through sound called Inferno. The album features star-studded features including ALRT, Kiesza, and Phoenix, AZ local Bella Renee.
Inferno starts off with the title track, a mantra-loaded jam with notes of a retro video game soundtrack. Chunky, guitar like bass create a unique sound. It blends of modern House and classic dubstep. “Holy” features Kyra Mastro on vocals and a classic rising House beat. Her soothing voice is complimented by velvet smooth synthesizers reminiscent of “Get By” by Delta Heavy, a song released 13 years ago!! This influence adds to the raw and nostalgic feel of the album’s production style.
“Stay With Me” features ASDEK and blends choppy instrumentals with glitchy drops straight out of The Matrix! It also features a gorgeous piano bridge. “BACK2u” is up next with a feature from SPORTMODE. The track’s gradual intro sounds like a traditional House song with its bouncy basslines and signature hi-hats. However, the track launches full speed into an interdimensional blend of genres. Fist-pumping techno, wonky dubstep, and House collide in a fantastic storm of sound.
“Fall Apart” is an emotional song that captures the struggle and yearning to find love in this world, backed up by a smooth House groove. The groove balances out the intense vocals and lyrics. Resulting in a chilling and honest track that shows Nostalgix’s vulnerable side.
“Why Do I Fall Apart. Every time I fall in love? Why do I get so scared? Run away every time. I’m not made for love.”
“Miss You” is a direct extension of this narrative, acknowledging that: “It’s taken me a long time to get here. But I know that I deserve to be loved exactly as I am. I miss you, even if I’m not perfect.” This double whammy of emotion caught me off guard and invoked a strong reaction in me. I am writing this during a difficult journey of self-love, which made this beautiful duo hit even harder. The beat rings out like a searchlight in the darkness trying to find its way home. “Karma” features Merow and hometown legend Bella Renee. The choppy drops clash with sharp hi-hats and Bella Renee’s fantastic vocals. “Karma” takes on a darker tone than any other track on the album so far.
“Shine” features Levex, impressive sampling, and drops that flow like digital lava. Techno undertones and rewinding scratch also add to the track’s unique sound profile. “On My Own” is a collaboration with ALRT that mixes atmospheric House with grumbling basslines and a majestic bridge. The duo bend impressive frequencies that show off their combined talents. “Dancing Through It All” is the final track on the album. It features Kiesza and has the most classic House feel of any of the previous tracks. This track is a high energy, inspirational closer to such a hyped album. The last 33 seconds are absolutely INSANE and create a pleasantly overwhelming wall of sound.”Dancing Through It All” carries a message of resilience and self assurance, making it an appropriate conclusion to Nostalgix’s debut album.
“IT WAS SO GOOD DAMMIT!”
