Relentless Beat of the Week: Emancipator – ‘Labyrinth’

Since his debut album Soon It Will Be Cold Enough was released in 2006, Douglas Appling, who you may know as Emancipator, has quietly solidified himself as a mainstay in the electronic music scene.

Classically trained as a violinist, Appling’s style of production is diverse, drawing inspiration from a wide range of international cultures and musical genres. The result is a fresh, authentic sound that can only be claimed as his own.

Check out his latest release, “Labyrinth,” below for today’s Relentless Beat of the Week.

Appling said about the track, “Listeners will probably notice that it shares a lot in common with the original Emancipator vibe. It has a quest-like, adventurous spirit and reflects that part of the hero’s journey toward enlightenment. Musically, this song went through many forms over the years. It felt like I was building a labyrinth of melodies that I would have to produce my way out of, and here we are with the finished track.”

Along with the single, Appling announced the release of his sixth studio album, Mountain of Memory on his own imprint, Loci Records. The album is set to release April 3rd. You can catch Emancipator on his Mountain of Memory Tour when he heads to the Van Buren in Phoenix on Friday, May 1st. Click here for tickets.
