YetepJustin Bieber is the next artist to have a track remixed or produced by a major electronic artist following in the steps of Rhianna and Madonna among many, many others. Yesterday, the Island Def Jam Music Group dropped Dada Life‘s remix of Boyfriend on their Soundcloud and it’s already nearly topped 50,000 plays (48,000 as of publishing).
To any of the doubters out there, the remix is actually pretty good and follows up well on Dada Life’s previous releases. Although it has some epic progressive chords that aren’t necessarily characteristic of much of Dada Life’s previous work, it does have enough sausage fattener to satisfy true fans of the Swedish producers. In fact, it’s clear that the release is really a Dada Life track with some modulated vocals from J Biebs. As someone who doesn’t listen to KISS FM much, I honestly wouldn’t even know that it was a Bieber track if I heard it in a club.
The reception from the dance music listeners has been polarized and Dada Life has already responded to the surprise. “Why do people get surprised that we remixed Justin Bieber?” Dada Life tweeted. “The only thing you can expect from us is the unexpected. Deal with it!”
Expect to hear this around the world. Looks like this trend is something we’ll have to get used to, but as long as the tracks remain true dance tracks, then I don’t see any reason to complain.
Author’s note Alright, so maybe the title is a little dramatic. First draft had “Dada Life Remixes Justin Bieber’s ‘Boyfriend’.”
