Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano spared no expense as they played to a capacity crowd on Saturday at the Marquee Las Vegas.
The moment the Dutch duo took to the stage, the energy took an immediate surge. What seemed like a typical nightclub experience, transformed into a production beyond my expectations. As we stood directly at the back of the dance floor, the entire room seemed to shift as lights were raised/lowered, and the screens behind SJRM came to life.
In between the craziness of dancing and people running to the bars for more drinks, little unique moments could be noted. We picked our go to bartender Paul–a guy who looked suspiciously like Allure with his hair dyed blonde–after we heard him yell “YO! Get your idiot homeboy!” to a group of party-goers who kept forgetting their credit card at the bar. “This guy is dope”, I remember one of our friends saying, “Let’s get some shots!”
The music, of course, got turned up as they took the stage and SJRM took full advantage of the crystal clarity of the Funktion One audio at their disposal. The duo took club-goers through a listening journey, dropping old school house tracks, new releases and even some tracks few people have heard before. The sign of a great act, was that it was obvious they knew how to move that crowd for three exciting hours and not once let the energy in the room drop too low or get too high at the wrong moment.
Just when we thought the party couldn’t get any crazier- the strobe lights begin to bring you the edge of your minds ability to stay sane, strobing at such a high rate with the music until-BANG- a heavy bass line drops and confetti comes flying from all directions. It’s everywhere- it’s in your hair, under your clothes and even in your drink. The confetti ends up being a souvenir you didn’t even realize you took home with you until the next morning when you’re peeling it off your chest.
“What the hell is that?” I said to my friend the next day when I noticed the confetti on his neck. As he peeled it off, a red confetti colored mark remained in its place. “A souvenir from last night, I guess!”
Track after track went by with impeccable transitioning, as the two seemed to connect with their crowd at the height of every song. The production at Marquee, matched up with the amazing talent SJRM brought to the club left everyone in that room jumping, grinding and swaying their way into a memorable Vegas experience.
SJRM will be playing at the Marquee again on Saturday, February 9, so if you have the chance be sure to check them out!
