“What do great artists when you see a world around you in turmoil?” asks disco guitar legend, Nile Rodgers. “Some of the best artists make you feel good. They look to the future.”
Featured on Daft Punk‘s Random Access Memories preview video at Coachella, Nile Rodgers, former guitarist for the disco group CHIC, plays rhythm guitar for the French Robots as Pharrell adds seductive vocals to the “Get Lucky” previews we’ve been hearing for weeks.
Rodger’s vibe is exactly the type of groove that a new disco type of album would look for. The Creators Project features him in Episode 3, leading up the to release of the new, highly anticipated Random Access Memories album.
“Where I come from, groove is everything,” Rodgers says. “Groove is something that’s rewarding on a spiritual level, on a primal level, an intellectual level and a physical level. You feel it.”
Considering the background of Daft Punk and the history of production behind Rodgers, the three together will create an explosion of new sounds and creativity.
“They were cooler than I thought,” says Rodgers. “The best collaborations in my life are when the people you work with are as good as you expect and then even better than that. You realize that the person brings more to the party, because you inspire that other artist to go to another level as they do you.”
“The robots, as artists, have evolved,” Nile tells us. “They’ve come to a place that’s beyond where they started. It’s like they went back to go forward.”
By the way, that little guitar rhythm Rodgers played at this end of his video, it’s the second Pharrell & Nile Rodgers collaboration teased on the album, “Lose Yourself to Dance”.
