YetepThis one has been a long time coming. We’ve seen clips from various festivals around the country including Trillecto Music Festival, and for weeks Henry Steinway has been teasing fans with little snippets of his latest release, including a clip of the producer toying around with the new Snapchat features (rainbow vomit) with the track playing in the background.
Well the wait is finally over. As of September 22nd, the RL Grime remix of “The Hills” by The Weeknd is officially available for download and stream. In the first 22 minutes of the tracks being available, it amassed over 12,000 listens, and now sits at over 276,000. The positive reception has been enormous and being his first official release since the VIP of his very own track, Scylla, we can tell that fans were thirsty for more. With that said, the Relentless Beat of the Week goes out to RL Grime’s remix of “The Hills”!
If you love the original, you’re going to absolutely fall for this mix. Introducing us to the track are a series of claps and a grimey melody, which then pass us off to the inclusion of The Weeknd’s haunting vocals. The vocals are a little more hollow than in the original which adds to the ethereal feeling of the whole track. As we approach the drop, the clapping swells and and a snare picks up the pace of the track. At the climax drums become minimal as we are faced with a full on army of layered synths backed by a basic drum pattern to support the aural sex of the drop. The incessant energy of this track has it set to be a staple in the sets of artists at some of the biggest festivals still to come this year. Don’t be surprised if close your eyes and wake up in musical heaven because this track absolutely kills.
Don’t forget to get your tickets to Global Dance Festival as soon as you can. You can bet your life savings that RL Grime will be dropping this remix, so if you weren’t sure when you’d be able to here it live next, there’s your answer. Joining RL Grime at Global Dance Fest is Big Gigantic, Gesaffelstein, Deorro, Cashmere Cat, Mija, Marshmello, and more to be announced. Don’t miss this huge event on November 20th!
