TomorrowWorld 2015 Artist Spotlight on Aly & Fila: The Shamans of Egyptrance

A word often associated with the trance genre is the word “journey”. The definition of the word journey is the passage or progress from one stage to another. In regards to Trance, the word is often associated with a passage from one common and average state of mind to another much more cerebral and uplifting state of mind. But as you rack your mind for those Trance tracks that cause you to experience what has come to have been known as “the feels”, I want you to stop consider the first time that you ever heard an Aly & Fila track… Never heard of Aly & Fila? Whether or not you have, you should know that these Egyptian shamans of the Trance genre take you on much more than a journey. They take you on an odyssey.

Hailing from where the sands blow harder and where the pyramids stand taller, Aly & Fila are the single most successful DJ duo to come from the spiritual lands of Egypt. Building their careers by constructing an immense in-country fan base which later turned into an opportunity for the duo to bring their future sound of Egypt to the rest of the world, Aly Amr Fathalah and Fadi Wassef Naguib now rank number 28 in the DJ Mag Top 100 (peaked at 20 in 2013). Playing some of the biggest festivals and nightclubs on the face of the earth, Aly & Fila’s inimitable sound is now recognized globally as music you can look to for escape.

In addition to reaching the #20 spot on the DJ Mag Top 100 in 2013, the duo also achieved the honors of being labeled as the #2 Trance DJs on Trance Podiums Top 50 DJs in the same year. This success can be accredited to releases such as the spellbinding “Eye of Horus” and “Spirit of Ka” as well as the rapturous “Eye 2 Eye” and recently released The Chill Out LP. In addition to their stunning uplifting trance releases, the duo has spread their Egyptrance way through their radio show entitled Future Sound of Egypt.

FSOE, now wrapping up its 400th episode, has served as the main vein for Aly & Fila to spread the word of Egyptian electronic music. The brand serves to represent the continuous flow of artists that, since the debut of the label, are stepping out of the Egyptian shadows. These shamans have gave these often unheard artists an opportunity to become recognized. As well as being a record label, FSOE has a cross-continent simulcast that showcases the brands talents to audiences around the world. Much in the vein of Armin Van Buuren‘s A State of Trance, Future Sound of Egypt plays to audiences of thousands world-wide for these very special celebratory episodes like FSOE400.

Aly & Fila is currently on their FSOE400 tour which will reach a high point with a show at the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt on September 11th. Prior to this spectacular moment in their careers as DJs and Producers representing a country often lost in the shadows of the European Trance all-stars, Aly & Fila sat down with Daily News Egypt to discuss their incredible fortuity. “It has been a lifelong dream of ours to be able to play and host our own party at the Great Pyramids! After many years of trying, our dreams will finally come true. We are so proud to be able to host FSOE400 at the Pyramids. The setting is just remarkable.” But, that’s not all. A celebration in Egypt, their home, at the most well-known landmark in all of the continent comes but once in a lifetime. Therefore, every one who deserves to be a part of the celebration is welcome. “This is a celebration in Egypt and we felt we wanted to support fellow Egyptian talent by having the DJs play on the line-up. The line-up includes: Amir Sharara, A&Z, Fady & Mina, Mohamed Ragab, Omar Sherif and ourselves.” A special moment for electronic music in their country in store.

Traveling the world, yet remaining true to themselves and their homeland, Aly & Fila stick to their roots and don’t plan on changing their ways anytime soon. Having put out 2 albums already this year, on top of their FSOE400 tour, 2015 is shaping up to be among their biggest yet. “We have always stuck true to our sound, the uplifting, melodic trance style. It’s what we love and what we believe in, we love what we do. And we can see this everywhere we play; the sound really works well with the crowds. Dance music evolves, genres come and go, but trance has always been there.” Check out Aly & Fila’s latest single featuring Ferry Tayle, “Napoleon”, below.
