YetepLeave it to Skrillex to drop it hard. If his New Year resolution was to be the king of collabs, he’s doing pretty darn well as we roll into February with THREE new tracks.
So far this power producer’s 2016 discography includes:
Skrillex & Team EZY (ft. NJOMZA) – Pretty Bye Bye
“Pretty Bye Bye” with Team Ezy
This collab is on OWSLA’s Worldwide Broadcast. He’s on a few of the 16 tracks, but this original track with Team Ezy definitely strays away from his signature hard sound and is all about the airy vocals of NJOMZA. This is my favorite out of Skrill’s three collabs- I’m obsessed with the drop. I wouldn’t doubt other producers jumping to remix this simple but genius track.
Skrillex & MUST DIE! – VIP’s
“VIP’s” with MUST DIE!
Sonny’s been teasing us with bits and pieces of this song for the last year, but it’s finally seeing some daylight. We can tell that Skrillex for sure handled the percussion on this song. Also on Worldwide Broadcast, this track takes a quite different approach than “Pretty Bye Bye.” This high energy song doesn’t have many lyrics, but definitely is going to be a dance-club favorite.
4MINUTE(포미닛) – 싫어(Hate) MV
“Hate” with 4minute
It feels like Skrill has found a place in every genre of music at this point… even Kpop. “Hate” is the lead track on 4minute’s newest album. Mixing a korean girl group with a dirty beat producer is definitely a hit or miss, but this collab is a hit for sure. To be honest, I can’t understand what the foreign singers are actually saying, but Skrillex’s familiar beats make it break even.
“VIPs” and “Pretty Bye Bye” were both released on Soundcloud on Jan. 29, with “Hate” trailing just three days later.
With two tracks on OWSLA’s compilation and a debut in Kpop, Skrillex isn’t wasting any time. This year he’s hit the ground running. What’s next for Sonny Moore? I wouldn’t be surprised if another track drops in the next few days. I bet more eclectic beats are up Skrill’s sleeve. Maybe some new Jack Ü?
