YetepYesterday (March 30th) the EDM King himself here in the states, Pasquale Rotella, made a huge announcement for Insomniac and their plans for the future. Being that Insomniac really is the leader of EDM here in the United States, it’s always nice to keep tabs on what is happening with them, so here is a quick little summary of some of the main points that Rotella goes over in his message.
The first thing that Rotella makes mention of is the vision of Insomniac which is “How do we make memories that last a lifetime and create the best possible experience for our Headliners?” It doesn’t matter about the money, the politics, the bureaucracy, and all the other bullsh*t that can get in the way, this is what is most important to Rotella and the rest of his team, and they want you to know this.
Rotella then goes on to acknowledge that, “Last year, Nocturnal celebrated its 20th anniversary. This year EDC turns 20, and we plan to make each show a very special experience for you: new stages, new carnival rides, new art, and of course, all your favorite music.” Pushing the boundaries of a festival is a normal occurrence for Insomniac. They continually try to bring out the best and create those memories that last a life time. Insomniac also doesn’t want to fall short of their goals and visions either, and for this they are making some sacrifices in order to enhance their vision in other realms and markets.

With this said, Insomniac has announced that they will be sacrificing some of their previously acclaimed creation, to focus in on expanding their vision elsewhere. “We won’t be doing EDC Puerto Rico or bringing Beyond Wonderland to the Bay Area this year…. I also want to send a special thank-you to all the Headliners who’ve expressed their excitement and helped spread the word about EDC Japan. While we are fully committed to bringing the festival to Asia, we have decided to hold off on our July launch date.”
While this news may indeed sadden us, this is really just because Insomniac takes their vision and reputation very seriously, “So many factors go into creating a successful festival, and we want to make sure you have the best possible experience!” So really we can just look at this as some of these festivals needing a little more time before once again the boundaries of a normal festivals are pushed and grow into something that will create an experience unlike any other.
The most notable announcement, to me personally, is the announcement of longer DJ sets. “Part of what’s so magical about dance music is the ability for a DJ to take listeners on a journey. We want to give DJs the opportunity to do that, so you’ll definitely be seeing longer set times this year.” So who knows how this will change concerts and how a DJ’s skill set can come together to create an experience for the audience. Either way, we all know we can eagerly wait for the changes to take place! Maybe we will see some of it at EDC this summer in June!
And the last thing to turn your heads’ towards are the new warehouse party series that Rotella Announced! Check out this image below!

If you want to read the full letter from Pasquale Rotella, go ahead and do so right here! In the mean time, we can’t wait to see the future of festivals and where Rotella will take them with Insomniac.
