In the midst of the Tomorrowland Twitter takeover, here’s what you might have missed this past week:
Marshmello:
Although Skrillex has yet to reply or retweet this, the two DJs have been behind the booth together before, but haven’t co-produced a big banger yet. With a very public friendship and constant social media engagement, it’s safe to say the chemistry these besties have will overflow into their music to create something outrageous. But when?
Claude VonStroke:
WHAT? Is this another potential masked marshmello in the making? Claude VonStroke, owner of Dirty Bird Records, has released three original artist albums in addition to several successful remixes. Mr Carmack is a lesser known DJ with a distinctly different sound than VonStroke… what should we expect? A totally new identity? A familiar sound? He has been pushing his true identity, Barclay Crenshaw as of late, even announcing that Barclay — not Claude — would be playing Dirtybird Campout!
DJ Fresh:
DJ Fresh took to Facebook on Sunday night to announce his official retirement from touring. He mentions health issues as a reason for his decision to stop performing, but makes it clear that despite personal problems, he’s becoming disinterested and disappointed in the EDM industry. He literally wrote, “I hate everything about it.”
Most known for his “Louder” Flux Pavilion remix, this follow-up tweet hints that although the DJ has promised to stop touring come January, he hasn’t necessarily said he’s going to stop producing music all together…
Dillon Francis & Jai Wolf:
It’s so entertaining to watch artists gush over other artists. Dillon, a clear Blink182 fan, and Jai Wolf, a long-time Kendrick supporter, took the time out of their chaotic traveling schedules to jam to their favorite artists this weekend. Bro Safari also seemed quite excited about Kendrick, tweeting Jai THREE times to get the inside scoop on the concert. If you wanted to know what these guys listen to while waiting for a flight or singing in the shower, Blink182 and Kendrick Lamar are safe bets.
Steve Angello:
On the other hand, veteran producer Steve Angello openly announced that he doesn’t listen to other artists. Not aiming to bash Eric Prydz or Deadmau5, he sparked a lot of replies by this statement. He later followed this tweet with another saying that he “doesn’t care what others do.” Obviously, steering clear of scoping out the competition hasn’t put Angello at a disadvantage since his Twitter was blowing up with praise and positive messages about his legendary TomorrowWorld set. What tracks are on Steve Angello’s iPhone? The world may never know.
