YetepA few weeks have gone by since EDC Las Vegas has ended, but rumor has it that this could be the last EDC in Las Vegas! Many attendees are very sad about this news because the biggest party of the year is always celebrated in the biggest party city. It just makes sense to have EDC in Las Vegas because those two things tied together make one epic experience for every headliner.
EDC originally held their events in Los Angeles until they were forced to move out due to drug related problems that kept occurring at the events. They relocated to Las Vegas in 2011. Many employees thought that it was actually destined for EDC to be held in Vegas, up until last year.
For me, it seemed as if EDC 2015 just ended and I finally got enough money in my pocket to live a normal life. Then all of sudden, I see that I need to buy my EDC 2016 ticket in September because Nevada conveniently put a 9% tax on raves. The price of an EDC ticket would go up $40 after the tax is implemented in October. Insomniac has a contract with the Speedway and was forced to implement this tax on all attendees. They just cheated the system a bit by releasing tickets a little sooner.
According to Las Vegas Weekly, EDC 2015 brought in an estimated amount of $337.8 million! With this tax, Las Vegas is now generating $4 million more. Las Vegas claims they can bring in other competitors to generate revenue for their city, but nothing will beat Insomniac events. Could Las Vegas just lose millions of dollars because of this? There is a pretty good chance.
With the Speedway contract up this year, Pasquale Rotella agrees that if taxes go any higher, then he will relocate the Electric Daisy Carnival. Possibly relocating to a place a bit cooler. This could even help reduce the amount of fans who overheat or unfortunately face death. Whatever the decision is, us headliners have to wait not only for the next lineup release, but also the answer to where the 21st EDC will be located.
