YetepWhen a producer teams up with an artist outside of the EDM spectrum you know the result will be unique, but when two masters of originality collaborate it’s bound to result in something extraordinary. Zhu and Tame Impala are both artists that break genre barriers with their distinct sound. Chinese American producer Steven Zhu produces tracks similar to deep house but lists his genre as “¯_(ツ)_/¯” on Facebook. Tame Impala is an Australian psychedelic rock band with members Kevin Par Coeur, Jay Watson, Dominic Simper, Cam Avery, and Julien Barbagallo. A collaboration between these brilliant creators seems too good to be true, but this week they dropped a track together.
“My Life” smooths your soul with a slower tempo, psychedelic synths, and a hint of jazz. Kevin Par Coeur’s transcendent voice adds psychedelic vibes that elicit nostalgia, while Zhu’s melodic voice and the catchy beat make this a chill, hypnotizing track. As a huge fan of both Tame Impala and Zhu, it’s incredible to hear a perfect marriage of Zhu and Coeur’s unique voices in a song that has obvious influences of both artists. If you’re someone who listens exclusively to EDM, let this track be an invitation to explore other genres of music.
