YetepJennifer Lee, who you more likely know as TOKIMONSTA, has had a rollercoaster ride of a career. Born in Torrance, California, the talented artist attended the University of California, Irvine to pursue a business degree, all while becoming classically trained as a pianist. During college, she began experimenting with production, sparking her career as a DJ. She released her first album, Midnight Menu in 2010, and quickly began receiving recognition from media. She released her second album, Half Shadows, in 2013 on Ultra Records and in 2014 she released Desiderium on her very own label, Young Art Records. It was clear TOKIMONSTA had big aspirations and no thoughts of slowing down any time soon. This week’s Spin it Back Saturday comes from Tokimonsta’s 2011 album, Cosmic Intoxication. Check out “Smoke and Mirrors” below.
This track is forever a fan favorite. With soothing jazz riffs and subtle, electronic coffee-shop vibes, it’s hard not to get swept away in the magic of TOKIMONSTA’s sound in this track. If you want to see this magic in action, be sure to catch TOKIMONSTA at Shady Park in Tempe on May 11. Grab your tickets here.
