YetepBrooklyn-based duo Conor Rayne and Ivan Jackson are the ones to praise for the fresh and funky sound that is Brasstracks. The two joined forces around 2014 while attending the Manhattan School of Music. They described their initial collaboration as somewhat of an accident when they paired up for a project that allowed them to combine their talents with their love for electronic dance music.
With Jackson, a master of brass and production, and Rayne the expert in all things drums, their experimentation of layering these sounds on top of each other is ultimately how their band name came to be. While the duo blatantly excels in their creation of soul-filled and lighthearted melodies, they do not fail to surprise their fans with their remixes of some of today’s top-charted hits whether it be a cover of an R&B, hip-hop, or deep bass track.
Most recently, the pair released their take on the No. 1 track that inspired the nation-wide viral dance challenge, “In My Feelings” by Drake. The tune is recognizable in the first toot of Jackson’s trumpet but if you listen closely, you can hear how Brasstracks incorporates some personal style with their added harmonies as well as some DJ mixes in the bass line.
Brasstracks is no stranger to the hip-hop scene as they similarly covered top tracks like “Trophies” by Drake as well as “XO Tour Llif3” originally by Lil Uzi Vert. Whether it’s bass or horns that draw you, these jazz-trained musicians have developed a “future-brass” sound that appeals to the masses. Luckily for us, they have taken this production on the road to bless the ears of music lovers alike as they have toured alongside admired artists like Lido and GRiZ and played iconic venues such as Denver’s own Red Rocks.
With performances of originals and covers ranging over a wide variety of hip-hop, electronic, funk, and jazzadelic R&B, you can catch Brasstracks performing your favorite tune on Friday, September 21st at Shady Park in Tempe, AZ. Get your tickets here!
