YetepYas, kings! DC and Hooks, the two kings who together are Zed’s Dead, have released a new single with DNMO true to their classic sound. Every track that the duo produce is gold, but there’s something iconic about the songs that have the original Zed’s Dead vibe. Tracks like “Woman Wine,” “In the Beginning,” and “Collapse,” all combine heavy synths, deep bass, and ZD’s obvious affection for the music. DC and Hook’s music was the first electronic music I first got into, and “We Could Be Kings” is very reminiscent of the uniqueness that sets them apart from other bass music.
High pitched twinkling sounds contrast with vibrating bass synths, and Tzar’s otherworldly voice singing, “This could be fate / Something that you can’t forget,” creates an interstellar sound. The delicate vocals opposing the heaviness of the melody reminds me of an old ZD favorite: their remix of Blue Foundation’s “Eyes on Fire.” DC and Hooks have perfectly matched juxtaposing elements in this track to make it both a banger and an in-you-feels track. That’s the beauty of Zed’s Dead; they appeal to the masses.
