Justice’s ‘Love S.O.S.’Combines Seduction and Shock Value

Justice, the iconic French duo made up of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, released an eye-catching video this week as part of their revamping of their 2016 album, Woman. On the 2018 Woman Worldwide, Justice presents extended, live versions of the earlier tracks. “Love S.O.S.” is one such song that they have reworked.

The video for “Love S.O.S” is the work of fellow Frenchman, Edouard Salier, who also directed Justice’s “Civilization.” It kicks off with a startling bird’s eye view of a man pole dancing in ambient red lighting. However, Salier does not indulge in this seductive ambiance for long: the tone suddenly shifts with a violent outburst from the dancer. The shock value of the video contrasts with the characteristic happy melodies of French touch that set the tone for “Love S.O.S.,” but the narrative makes sense with the lyrics. For a song about “a love emergency,” Justice has tapped into a very fitting aesthetic. See for yourself below.
