OKAYVAL Kicks Off 2025 With Surreal Grooves on ‘Bass’

Jacksonville, Florida DJ/producer OKAYVAL was one of my earliest 2024 artist discoveries. Her single “Poison” was a surprise Apple Music recommendation that also received the title of my favorite release of the year. OKAYVAL’s 2024 release schedule also included club anthem “Disco” and the groovy, symphonic bop “Basslevel.” An early upbringing full of old school House, Trance, and Techno has heavily influenced OKAYVAL’s sound. Coming together to creating a diverse discography from multiple genres and eras. Her incredible work ethic has earned co-signs from industry titans like Laidback Luke.

OKAYVAL is back with “Bass,” her first release of 2025. The single’s surreal cover art matches its vibe and sound. “Bass” starts with chunky bass grooves, multiple layers of atmospheric effects, and a shimmering lantern of light. This light helps guide the rolling House beat. Soulful vocal samples ring out on top of the funky groove. Steady taps and hi hats build in rhythm, as shockwaves of bass ring out from the track’s core. A shotgun snap drops the listener into a deep valley filled with bass waves. These waves are spliced by natural clicks and sharp house drums. The radiated bass waves contract in and out, complimented by electrical sparks.

“Bass” then rolls back to the intro loop. The loop is joined by soft undertones and maintains its consistent roll. The hi hats, techno kicks, and heavy bass rage on. “Bass” builds to a massive wormhole that briefly engulfs it, launching the track into another realm. Rolling along and eventually sputtering into an elastic band of bass. This contracts back into the loop, with glitchy alarm effects that ring out from the bass puddles. Another slam dunk track with lots of fun details!

OKAYVAL’s first release of 2025 is another slam dunk track with lots of fun details! Keeping to the core fundamentals of her sound, while experimenting with interesting twists and frequencies. The tropical influence of her environment can be heard in nearly release. OKAYVAL’s ability to blend numerous vibes, tones, and genres together results in well-produced bops.
