YetepLegal issues, sample clearance, you name it. Lil Wayne has gone through some absolute hurdles for us to finally hear “Tha Carter V”. The last Carter albums were released in 2013 and 2011, bringing fans of all types of rap back to their roots while listening to songs that he has held onto for some time now. With features from XXXTENTACION, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, his own daughter Reginae Carter, and others, this is a nostalgic album with an intro and 22 tracks that will have your earbuds in for weeks.
The album does not have a Drake feature; on his CRWN interview on Tidal, he stated that it was simply because of sample clearance, which appeared to be one of the common themes that halted the release of the anticipated project. What is truly scary is how Lil Wayne talks about the songs like they are so yesterday. Although his song “Dark Side of the Moon” with Nicki Minaj is newer, he leads us to believe there’s more new music to come, even hinting at the fact that the album was almost doubled in size due to the number of songs he has stacked. So who knows what’s next for this rap legend.
The fifth Carter album is pretty much exactly what we thought it would be, full of classic 2010-2015 type beats that are still so addicting to this day. Keep up with Weezy and get to listening to the new Carter!
