Relentless Beat of the Week: Blunts & Blondes – ‘Run The City’

Mike Guard, aptly known as Blunts & Blondes, is more than just a good DJ who shares blunts with the crowd during his shows. He’s a bass producer whose wobbly synths take his listeners back to the era of old, classic dubstep. For this reason, he stands out for being different than the aggressive, hard-hitting dub that is currently saturating the genre. His talent, somehow, hasn’t even taken shape in an album yet. His debut EP Smoking With Friends is dropping this week, and his single ahead of the EP, “Run The City,” is our Relentless Beat of the Week. Kick back and listen below.

“Run The City,” is a laidback, low-hitting track that does all the fancy-work in the wet, grimy synths that will reverberate off the walls of any room it’s played in. These are the wobbles that Blunts & Blondes is beloved for; he keeps the framework of the track cool and simple and blows minds with the sound design in the details. Smoking With Friends comes released on the Deadbeats label, an impressive feat for his first EP release. This song and the EP trailing it will easily be on repeat all weekend long.

Blunts & Blondes will be getting wild in the west with us at Goldrush this year on September 27th & 28th. Get your tickets here.
