Two of Russia’s electronic duos unmatched in their bass house prowess have united to deliver Russian Style Compilation to their fans. Volac and Phlegmatic Dogs have created an ode to their homeland, which not only showcases the Russian style to bass house but also features artwork in the Cyrillic alphabet. Both duos have gained the recognition of countless big-name house producers, including the attention of AC Slater, which landed them both on the Night Bass imprint. It seemed an obvious decision for the four artists to collaborate on an EP, as well as a North American tour that they recently announced. Tune your ears to good Russian-style bass house below.
The four-track EP features two original tracks and two remixes from the two duos, making this EP a notable exchange of talent and art. Phlegmatic Dogs gas up the EP with “Bastard,” a hard-hitting bass house track ripe with massive synths that set the tone for the rest of the project. Volac follows with “Tell You,” which features a litany of trippy synths over four-by-four drum patterns filled with sharp snares and hi-hats reminiscent of a more aggressive approach to tech-house. The third effort sees Phlegmatic Dogs’ edit of Volac’s “Russian Style,” combining the latter’s signature soundbites with classic industrial bass synths. Closing things off is Volac’s absolutely enormous remix of “Cuatrocats,” a track released by Phlegmatic Dogs back in 2018. Through their talents and teamwork, Volac and Phlegmatic Dogs have demonstrated as well as created an appreciation for Russian style bass house.
Phlegmatic Dogs and Volac are bringing their Russian style tour to Shady Park on December 1st for a B2B. Get your tickets here.
