YetepLos Angeles-based DJ and producer, Mat Zo, is back with a DnB force unlike any other. Going back to his roots and driving into a sound he normally dedicates to his alias, MRSA, Matan Zohar is giving us pure, unbridled chills on “Emotion Sickness.” We get a staggering seven minutes in pure Drum N’ Bass heaven with an electrifying syncopated piece full of warbly tuning notes and a high BPM bass line. Halfway through, Zo gives us time to recover from what we just heard with a truly haunting melody of strings before we are rushed back into those driving beats. His ability to create a feeling of “Emotion Sickness,” that one might not be able to describe in words, definitely portrays the mastery he has as an artist who manipulates sound in such entrancing ways. Out now on Bassrush Records, get lost in the feeling below.
Mat Zo’s career as a DJ started at the ripe age of 16, where even before he was already fully immersed in music. Since, he has released tracks on Armada Records, Anjunabeets, Hospital Records, and more, working as both Mat Zo and under his DnB alias MRSA (which started in 2007). His debut album, Damage Control, dropped in 2013 and earned him a Grammy nomination under best Dance/Electronic Album. It truly defined his unique explorations of musical styles and paced the way for forthcoming releases. In 2014, he founded MAD ZOO, a record label that houses his sophomore album, Self Assemble, and prides itself in curating genre-less creations. He’s taken over the stages of EDC, Ultra, Tomorrowland, and Electric Zoo while amassing a following that continues to grow.
You’re going to want to keep your eyes and ears on Mat Zo from now on, as his music captures the emotion and the uncanny in wildly, unformed ways.
