Sofi Tukker Delivers Syncopative Remix of Wuki’s ‘Sunshine (My Girl)’

“When it’s cold outside, I’ve got the month of May.”

In September, DJ/producer Wuki gave us an AWESOME cover of “My Girl” by The Temptations. Now, dance music staple Sofi Tukker has delivered another remix. Originally released in 1965, “My Girl” is a certified classic and has appeared in countless movies, television shows, and radio programs. The lyrics are infinitely quotable, the melodies are sharp and on point, and the instrumentation is legendary. Many covers have been made over the years, attesting to the song’s timeless nature. It is clear to see why such massive players in the EDM scene choose to remix this masterpiece.

Sofi Tukker’s remix song starts off strong with a digitized, electronic version of the original’s notable guitar riff as classic house-like snares, claps, and gleaming effects play in the background. This riff plays on a loop throughout the song, making the song’s rhythm pretty easy to identify and dance to. Minor vocal patterns are also present as the lyrics that we know and love come in at full force. As we find ourselves nearing the halfway point of the song, the chorus of the original track comes in, followed by a very unexpected mid-tempo drop, as the chorus continues to loop. After this loop has concluded, the main rhythm of the song returns albeit with a more pronounced snare, which is sure to get the whole club shuffling.

From this point, the song begins it’s gradual conclusion. The track’s vocals then begin to echo as several samples appear to be layered on top of each other, while building to a leading crescendo. We are then brought back down to earth as the notable, danceable rhythm returns with an added layer of crystalline sounds. The song eventually fades out with more pronounced snares and layered, echoing vocal effects completing our retro dancing journey.

Sofi Tukker took Wuki’s “Sunshine (My Girl)” and added their very own spin, while still maintaining the same inspired spirit.
