YetepWhile I thoroughly enjoy going wild for the conventional dubstep beats and headbanging my way through festival performances by artists like Slander and Excision, there’s an undeniable soft spot in my heart for bass music that embraces complex rhythms. Crafting EDM is an immensely challenging feat, and the ability of artists not only to build an entire bass-driven composition from scratch but also to focus on intricate rhythms, creating a mesmerizing soundscape, is truly remarkable. Here are five of my favorite rhythmically complex bass tracks; give them a listen, and you might discover a newfound appreciation for their complexity.
“Circles” by Kill the Noise
Leading off the list is Kill the Noise, a veteran in the industry for over a decade, constantly pushing the boundaries of sound innovation. This track is a whirlwind of quick beats with a distinctive hollow sound propelling the song forward. At the 1:10 mark, the composition takes an ni ceturn, introducing offbeat sounds as the melody within a complex structure. It’s a must-listen!
“Asteriod” by Excision, Subtronics
If you’re a bass enthusiast, chances are you’re familiar with this track. While the initial drops are massive, it’s the final drop that truly blows the mind. With the sampled phrase “more creative,” Subtronics and Excision assert their dominance in the bass world, presenting a faster-paced, rhythmically intricate structure. Take another listen; it’s sure to leave you craving more!
“Woke Symphony” by Capochino
This track, stumbled upon through Instagram, turned my world upside down. Featuring a typical first tearout dubstep drop with incredible, almost ethereal production, the second drop is where the magic happens. Following the buildup, a beautiful array of sounds unfolds, leading into a heavy drop with the captivating sounds continuing throughout. If you haven’t experienced this song yet, prepare to be captivated!
“Liminality” by G Jones
G Jones truly showcases his prowess in this track. Not for the faint-hearted, the song’s glitchy nature might initially come across as random noises to some. However, once you dive deeper, you’ll appreciate the artistry crafted through glitch sounds and intricate rhythms. It might just steal your heart, especially if you’re a fan of space bass.
“Cherry Sinefold” by Jade Cicada
Wrapping up the list is Jade Cicada, a force to be reckoned with in the beats-based space bass scene. This track exemplifies his mastery, featuring deep, gnarly sound design and a complex rhythm that elevates it to the next level. If you’re new to the space bass scene, I recommend approaching it with open ears, allowing the music to take you on an incredible journey. It’s bound to be an unforgettable experience!
