YetepIt’s Charli, baby! British superstar Charlotte Emma Aitchison, professionally known as Charli XCX, has always been known as a rule-breaker. She is one of the most innovative and talented singer-songwriters of our generation, giving us some of the best electro-pop hits like “Boom Clap,” “Speed Drive,” and her most recent album, Crash. Charli XCX rose to prominence after first being featured and co-writing Icona Pop’s 2012 hit song “I Love It” and Iggy Azalea’s 2014 hit song “Fancy,” which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, Charli has established herself as a pop pioneer and is now returning to her dance music roots.

“i was born to make dance music.. i came from the clubs.. xcx6 is the album i’ve always wanted to make.”

Charli announced at the end of January that she would be hosting her first official Boiler Room show on February 22nd. Even before Charli XCX took to the booth, her Boiler Room set, “PARTYGIRL,” was already iconic. Anticipation immediately began just hours following the announcement, an astounding 25,000 RSVPs were received—the highest number in Boiler Room history. Charli presented her PARTYGIRL Boiler Room DJ set in a warehouse in Brooklyn, New York last week alongside sets from NYC DJ Doss, A.G. Cook, and Charli’s fiancé, George Daniel of The 1975. Stars like Addison Rae and Julia Fox jumped in for their special appearances too. The 400 lucky lottery winners who got to attend the illustrious event described it as one of the most high-energy and raw performances of their lives.
With the success of her Boiler Room show, came the announcement of her latest single, “Von dutch,” which is the lead cut off of her official dance album, Brat. The project’s first song is a raw, hard-hitting club anthem that pays homage to her club music origins. The addictive “Von dutch” was released on Thursday and promptly deemed Best New Track by Pitchfork. The new single proves Charli was born to create all music, but especially dance music. Her pure passion for the scene always shines through on each of her records and this is just the beginning of her new “party girl” era. The new release is accompanied by an instant classic music video directed by Torso at France’s Charles de Gaulle Airport, which you can check out below or watch here.
Charli announced on social media that Brat is set to release this summer and will feature 15 tracks totaling over 40 minutes in duration. This new album will be Charli’s most intimate showcase yet. Get ready for your most legendary “party girl” era to begin.
