YetepChampagne Drip and WAVE17 have dropped an updated remix of the classic 2014 song “Honeymoon (feat Ash Riser)” from CD’s Radio Bikini EP. The original features an extremely catchy hook that has been stuck in my head for YEARS, as well as being a remix staple for live DJ’s from multiple genres. The lyrics are poignant and memorable, including passages such as:
“After tonight, when the sun ends this song. Sitting in paradise, I just want to go home. So I took that red-eye flight back to the city I reside. Left my heart upon an island, California on my mind.”
These deep lyrics are backed by shimmering effects and an ominous ticking that alternates with splash effects to form the introduction’s rhythmic foundation. The drop is beautiful and intricate, marching along with a reggae/dub flair, spacey synths, and CD’s patented bubbly production style. Dissonant vocals travel in and out of the drop, adding an atmospheric layer to the already diverse sound scape, as powerful drums back up the spiraling bass. We are then brought back to where we started, albeit with more euphoric, soaring effects. The last half of the original changes in tempo and tone, before gracefully fading out. I have been looking for this song for a while now and am happy to have discovered it. Now onto the remix.
The remix begins with splashy drums, distorted vocals, menacing synths, and rhythmic “DUT-DUT” effects galore. The passionate verses are delivered in various states of distortion, ebbing and flowing freely with the beat. A steel drum takes over around the minute and a half mark, giving this remix a jungle-like feel, as the synths weave in and out. A bridge welcomes back the distorted vocals, as we are brought into a harmonious drop. This remix completely changes the tone of the original, doing a 180-degree shift in pitch, vibe, and tone. A welcome addition to the ever-expanding lore of CD and his collaborative efforts with artists like Ash Riser and WAVE17. Stream both versions above for the full picture.
