Steller Unleashes The Florida Vibes On New EP, ‘AM I DREAMING’

Steller is a South Florida DJ known for crafting kaleidoscopic and psychedelic soundscapes. She has collaborated with notable artists like Zingara and Jessica Audiffred and appeared on the lineups of numerous festivals. These collaborations bring out the best of the talent involved. Steller’s newest release through Subtronics‘ Label Cyclops Records, the two-track Am I Dreaming EP, is a wondrous inter-dimensional journey through sound. A perfect blend of bright, fluttery tones and THICK mesmerizing bass. Read below for a breakdown of each track.

The title track, “AM I DREAMING” begins with fluttering spirals, fuzzy reverberating vocals, and atmospheric whirs. A subtle tinge of dub/reggae and layers of drums create the rhythmic foundation of “AM I DREAMING,” as the spirals and vocal samples continue. Operatic crescendoes and rapid-fire drum effects make up the pre-drop. The drop consists of thick low-ends and intergalactic buzzes that evoke a side-to-side head bob and curled bass-face in the listener. The Dub tones split this drop. Plamping drums and dizzying scratches can be heard in between these elements. Leading us to a vocal bridge. This bridge leads to the second drop where everything is ramped up to ELEVEN. The bass and spirals extra wonky. Clipped vocal samples and operatic chants effortlessly go along with the rhythm. The song brings us back to where we started, before fading out on one last sample.

“Another Place” is the second track on this EP and begins with euphoric tropical vibes reminiscent of her Florida home. Shimmering spirals shoot off in all directions over ominous keys and spongy bass bubbles. “HERE WE GO.. HERE WE GO!” “Another Place” then expands its range. Vocal samples roll along with the drums and keys. Ethereal choir vocals go off in tune with the keys and spirals. Claps take over percussive duties, as warm synths rise. A bombardment of drums take over. Bridging into a wubtastic drop with revving bass. The track loops before building to another drop. This drop has deeper canyons and higher ascents than its predecessor. Closing out with gorgeous keys and echoing samples.

The AM I DREAMING EP is another storied release for Steller to add to her discography. She draws inspiration from countless genres. Often showing an affinity for hip-hop drum effects. She is very talented at blending heavy and cerebral styles. A shining example of what The Sunshine State has to offer. I have yet to see Steller live. Putting her at the top of my Must-See Artists List. Dive into the rest of her discography as soon as possible!
