Los Angeles based duo TWSTD ZOO and rising LA star ALLEYCVT have collaborated on numerous projects throughout their careers. Crafting amazing tracks with perfect auditory chemistry. Alleycvt’s ethereal vocals blend with TWSTD ZOO’s laser-focused, intergalactic production. Creating dynamic collaborations with high replay value. “Tell Me Again (ft Crvte)” being a notable highlight. This ongoing collaborative effort continues with “Lose It All.” “Lose It All” features the artists at the top of their game. Starting out with layers of echoing ALLEYCVT vocal samples and a supercharged beat that flows into the first verse “Ohh you showed me. That sometimes when I’m with you, I’m still lonely. Where did you go? Hold me closely. Want to get to the beginning where you know me. For better or worse.” ALLEYCVT’s vocals are as earth-shattering as ever! Consistently reverberating off of the instrumentals. The heartfelt lyrics continue as follows:
“We start to come alive when we both lose our minds. Back and forth into the night. We do it every time. The drum effects switch in genre and tone. Going between plampy DnB inspired hits and thick and speedy rushes of dubstep. A glistening wave of sound transforms into a vaporwarve paradise before building to the drop. ALLEYCVT’s incredible vocal range is demonstrated in the next lines: “But I don’t want don’t want, nooo I don’t wanttt. To wait the crash and fall. Holding on, holding on. Before we lose it all.” The first drop ascends high bass mountains. Throwing in some downtempo wubs for good measure! The instrumentals suddenly spiral outwards and vaporize. ALLEYCVT’s vocals then emerge from the vapor unscathed.
“Ive been dreaming. About the things I could’ve said without me leaving. (Without me leaving.) Baby I know. (Baby I Know.) All the feelings. That I’m always scared to show, my heart starts beating. I’ll be good on our own.” This last line is especially genius! Walking through life with an embodied version of your own emotions is a powerful visual. The narrator acknowledges that despite having their feelings by their side, they are still on their own. Implying a simultaneous separation and unity between the two. SO AMAZING! Thick, jungle-like drum fills thump along with the vocals. Delicate keys give listeners a pleasant bridge in which to rest (momentarily.) This a beautiful track segment that flows well into the next. The chorus repeats over the keys. The vocal samples take on a rhythmic echo as ALLEYCVT gives it her all! The extra vocal emphasis on 2:31 – 2:41 gives me chills EVERY TIME. I recently played this song on my neighbor’s incredible sound system. I was in sheer awe of the quality and range of this particular vocal section. Well done!
ALLEYCVT continues to sing her heart out. Multiple layers of samples collide over a steady rumble lead us to the final pre-drop. Breakbeats, dubstep drums, and metallic whooshes build tension. TWSTD ZOO’s Vaporwave notes return in a BIG WAY as the drums grow pleasantly plampy. NICE. The drums increase in speed in preparation for the final drop. A bounce effect expands into a massive wave of bass. SWITCH! “Lose It All” then takes on techno notes. Heavy drums, cybernetic walls of a bass, and laser undertones rage on. Returning to a heavy dubstep drop soon after. The system overloads at 3:54 before one final rev concludes the track.
“Lose It All” is another fantastic collaboration between TWSTD ZOO and ALLEYCVT. It is so nice to see them reunited after numerous collaborations earlier in their careers. TWSTD ZOO’s varied production style pairs well with ALLEYCVT’s equally varied vocal range. She likely had influence on other aspects of the production of “Lose It All” as well. This release has inspired me to dive deeper into TWSTD ZOO’s discography, which is something that I should have done a long time ago. Well done to everyone involved in the production of such a gem. Happy Listening!
