Relentless Beats

Gabry Ponte Drops ‘Body’ with Tai Woffinden & Yasmin Jane

Gabry Ponte is well-known for his ability to make commercial hits. He produced one of the most successful Europop songs ever, “Blue (Da Ba Dee),” during his time as a band member of Eiffel 65. The track sold over 8 million copies and eventually led to the band winning “Best Italian Artist in the World” at the European Music Award. In 2005 he went solo and in 2006 he started his label “Dance and Love,” which has to be one of the most wholesome record label names I’ve ever heard. In 2012 he produced the hit songs “Tacata” by Tacabro and “Beat on My Drum” with Pitbull and Sophia del Carmen. He has continued this streak of hit songs over the years while playing at some of the biggest festivals on the planet. He’s back again with an unexpected techno track in collaboration with Tai Woffinden and Yasmin Jane.

“Body” starts off right away with a rolling bassline, punchy kicks, and Yasmin Jane’s catchy topline. Extra percussive elements are introduced every four bars to build energy for the drop. Then, right before the drop, the track is stripped of its percussion, bass, and kick, leaving room for the vocal melody to turn into a synth (genius). The synth melody creeps into a drop with the same kick and bassline that make this track so good. The structure of this track forces it to be catchy like a pop song, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from Gabry Ponte.
