YetepHekler is a multi-talented DJ/producer who has NAILED the balancing act of melody and brute strength with his unique sense of sound design. His latest release, “No Tomorrow” encourages listeners to stay immersed in the present moment and not let the unknown future distract them. The track begins with a shatter effect, a ticking loop, and a choirs worth of vocal samples. A sharp undercurrent of bass gradually forms, as the vocals tell the listener “Don’t worry about tomorrow. Stop thinking about tomorrow. Let’s not worry about tomorrow” on repeat. An urgent siren effect morphs into a spiral, as the claps, drums, and revving bass come into frame. The drums furiously beat, while the vocals distort. The spiraling beat descends into a full-bodied drop. With precise lasers, chunky reverberating bass, and sharp-edged wonks. A sputtering, danceable beat with lots of twists and turns. The drums take on a heartbeat pattern, as the other effects form a sound wall that crashes in from every direction. The bass continues to hum along with the vocals and loop. Charging up before bringing back the warped siren. The tempo raises as the listener is lead into the second drop. This second drop is TIGHT in both structure and sound. Transforming into a downtempo wonderland. The drums march at double time, forming a close-knit bond with the other elements. This portion of “No Tomorrow” is especially well-layered, with every element coming together PERFECTLY. Techno-inspired kicks and cybernetic bass duke it out in a test for dominance. Occasional wonks and wubs break up the drop. As it rises and falls like a metallic tide, before subsiding with one last batch of vocals. The track gloriously fades out in triumph.
The message behind this song is powerful and palpable, with an outstanding beat to match. Hekler is so talented, that some of his sound design choices are simply beyond description. “No Tomorrow” is no exception to this rule. I was in awe of this track throughout its runtime. A perfect balance of melodic vocals, synths, and keyboards. With ferocious drums, dizzying bass, and THICK wonks balancing the heavier end of the scale. Hekler is one of my favorite DJs of 2024 and my only regret is not discovering his work sooner! He hits the perfect ratio between melodic and heavy on a regular basis, while incorporating genres such as hip-hop into his auditory lexicon. Listen below to experience “No Tomorrow” for yourselves. Happy Listening!!
