Greatest Album by Album: Apashe’s ‘Renaissance’

Albums are a labor of love and offer a glimpse into an artist’s universe where they create entirely new worlds. With a full-length album, an artist can truly flex their creative muscles, crafting a more cohesive piece compared to a single or an EP. Because of that, an EDM album is often dynamic, exploring different facets of an artist’s style beyond just their primary genre.

Welcome to “The Greatest Album by Album” series, where we dive into albums that I believe belong in the top echelon of the industry.

Apashe – Renaissance – Released in 2020

Apashe has changed the game, and he’s not looking back. By fusing his passion for classical music with bass music, he’s created a unique approach to electronic music that fans are flocking to. Often performing with a brass ensemble or orchestra, Apashe has redefined what a “live” performance can be. His discography has incredible range, spanning infectious house beats, vocal-driven trap, and groundbreaking dubstep infused with classical elements. He’s building his case to be a headliner, and I don’t expect him to lose momentum anytime soon. Not only are his live performances unreal, but his music is also truly incredible, and I’m so excited to share with you one of my favorite albums of all time: Renaissance.

Released in 2020, Renaissance immediately put a spotlight on Apashe. This album is a true work of art, approached almost like a classical musician rather than an electronic artist. The focus on the different instruments, arranged beautifully in every track, is outstanding. The album starts off with a bang, as both “Distance” and “Behind My Eyes” hit the listener with trap beats composed of classical instrument sounds, with vocals that pierce your soul. Immediately following these tracks is “Lord & Master,” which arguably has one of the best buildups of all time, with a symphony of instruments building tension before an earth-shattering bass drop descends on the listener. My personal favorite is “Work,” a vocal-driven track with a space bass/trap hybrid drop that gets the audience going. Overall, this album deserves a full listen-through, as the world-building is done magically.

Apashe is a rising star in every sense of the word, and it’s only a matter of time before he ascends to the rank of a true headliner. Little compares to seeing an Apashe live set, so if you ever get the chance, take it!
