There’s no denying Subtronics’ greatness. He has truly ascended to the top and is now firmly an S-tier headliner, having closed out many of the largest festivals around the world. Staying true to himself, Subtronics dominates with his unique style of bass music, which consists of heavy bass, intricate rhythms, and masterful sound design, all accompanied by high-pitched melodies that soar over his tracks. Subtronics is a true wizard when it comes to sound production, and each track he creates is a masterpiece. While I can’t possibly fit all my favorite Subtronics tracks into one blog, here are five of my absolute favorites—hope you discover something new!
When Subtronics started playing this song in his sets, I knew he was built differently. This track, while not initially heavy on bass, showcases why he’s on another level. The first drop delivers a stunning future bass sound, like a robot descending from the heavens. The second drop is equally mind-blowing, shifting into a brain-melting bass drop. These updated drops, paired with beautiful vocals, make this track one of my all-time favorites.
This track was groundbreaking when it dropped, fusing elements of house and dubstep into one cohesive piece. Subtronics flexes his technical skills here, with complex rhythms and sound design throughout. The first drop opens into bass house before quickly morphing into a destructive dubstep section, creating a contrast not many artists can pull off. The second drop sticks to house, showcasing Subtronics’ versatile production style.
Although this is the oldest song on my list, it has consistently remained one of my favorites over the years. “Glitch Fight” is a perfect example of Subtronics’ signature style, with high-pitched melodies soaring over thundering basslines. The first drop is like a symphony of robotic sounds cascading downward into heavy dubstep, creating pure destruction. The high-pitched notes throughout the drop create a dynamic contrast that’s impossible to ignore.
The first track from Subtronics’ debut album is still a standout. “O.P.U.S.” is packed with emotion, starting with a beautiful symphony that builds tension and evokes deep feelings. The drop is a powerful future bass arrangement, with roaring synths that create intensity, even in the absence of lyrics. This song symbolizes someone reclaiming their power, and you can feel that energy in every note.
This collaboration between Subtronics and Grabbitz is one of my all-time favorites. The song blends emotional vocals with a heavy dubstep drop, utilizing trap elements to add texture and power. The movement of the drop takes the listener to another level, especially when the second drop hits—it’s a relentless onslaught of bass that tears through reality. “Insidious” is an absolute masterpiece and a perfect exclamation point to end this list on!
