YetepWhile albums give artists the space to create immersive worlds within their music, I believe EPs can be just as impactful, even though they typically contain fewer songs. EPs allow an artist to capture a fleeting moment in history, and with their compact nature, they can distill emotion, power, and artistry into a shorter, more focused experience. EPs deserve celebration, and this is the Greatest EP by EP series. I hope you enjoy it.
Excision & Wooli – Evolution – Released in 2019
Excision and Wooli go together like peanut butter and jelly. While Excision has been on top of the bass scene for years, Wooli is still on his rise, and Excision has been there supporting him every step of the way. Their styles blend perfectly, making their collaborations essential in any bass artist’s DJ set. Wooli and Excision just went B2B to close out the latest edition of Lost Lands with a truly earth-shattering set—a testament to Wooli’s rise to headliner status over the past year. Though they have several collaborations, including some yet to be released, their game-changing collab EP Evolution has every track delivering absolute bangers.
The EP opens with one of the most iconic bass tracks of all time, “Lockdown.” The song builds momentum through the intro before dropping into a face-melting dubstep drop that guarantees to blow your mind. Following that is “Oxygen,” a more melodic piece that perfectly contrasts the heavy opener, featuring an emotional bass drop and beautiful vocals by Julianne Hope. The third track, “Evolution,” sees Sam King’s rap building tension, which explodes into a fast-paced, old-school brostep drop. The EP closes with a masterpiece collab with Seven Lions, which has it all: incredible vocals, a soul-stirring melodic drop, and a devastating bass drop that always gets the crowd roaring. Overall, Evolution stands out as one of the best EPs in bass music.
Excision and Wooli are true stars in the often oversaturated bass genre, and this EP marked the beginning of something truly special. Even though they’re at different stages of their careers, it’s awesome to see them remain great friends and support each other’s growth. Here’s hoping another collab EP is on the horizon—if it’s anything like this one, it’s sure to be magical!
Don’t miss Excision at this year’s Decadence Arizona, taking place December 30th and 31st at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, AZ! Grab your tickets here!
