YetepOver the last couple of years before GRiZ went on an indefinite hiatus, he shifted his sound more toward bass. While some longtime fans didn’t initially embrace this change, the brilliance of his artistry was undeniable. GRiZ was producing some of the freshest dubstep tracks the scene had heard in years. His bass music carried subtle funk influences and intricate sound design, adding a unique flair to the bass scene that was both refreshing and groundbreaking. Ever the workhorse, GRiZ had crafted countless bass IDs, and, lucky for us, he decided to drop (most of) them on SoundCloud as a parting gift. These were the tracks his most dedicated fans had spent hours scouring YouTube recordings of his live sets to hear—and now, with their official high-quality release, the world feels a little brighter.
ID Bible is an extraordinary collection of bass music, featuring a grand total of 24 IDs released on SoundCloud, all packed with absolute heaters. This album, true to its nature as a collection of IDs, doesn’t necessarily consist of fully fleshed-out songs, but every track still delivers. The collection kicks off with “Supersonic,” a highly sought-after ID boasting one of the heaviest drops I’ve ever heard. Then there’s “Womp Womp Wonky,” a certified banger with a funky yet devastating chord progression that obliterates everything in its path. Along the same lines, his remix of “Feel It All” is a powerhouse dubstep track, fusing cinematic bass with raw energy for a perfectly rounded feel. And let’s not forget “Gametime,” a true highlight where distortion seamlessly blends with melodic elements, creating the feeling that the music is ripping a hole through space and time.
While these are my personal favorites, the entire collection is a masterclass in bass music, filled with intricately crafted tracks perfect for any basshead. GRiZ remains a bright light in the EDM community, not only for his advocacy of love and acceptance but also for producing some of the best music in the genre’s history. While he’s still on his hiatus—hopefully living his best life—I eagerly await the day he makes his return. Sending love to GRiZ, and as always: Show Love, Spread Love.
