Exploring GRiZ’s ‘Bangers’ Series: A Genre-Bending Masterpiece: Vol 1-2

One of the things I love most about GRiZ is his relentless creativity. He’s a true producer at heart, tirelessly working to create new pieces of art for us to enjoy. With his incredible grasp of multiple genres, GRiZ’s discography has immense range. Between 2019 and 2022, he released seven EPs under the Bangers series, and the world hasn’t been the same since. These EPs are packed with genre-spanning tracks that showcase GRiZ’s versatility and brilliance. This blog kicks off a short series reviewing the Bangers EPs—hope you enjoy!

Bangers[1].Zip – Released in 2019

The first installment gave the world a taste of what was to come. These EPs may be short in length, but they are undeniably explosive. Bangers[1].Zip opens with “Voodoo,” a funky track fused with space bass elements, creating a spacey vibe that feels like it’s tickling your brain. Continuing on this intergalactic journey, “No Bad Trips” leans heavily into sound design, offering a space bass and funk fusion with an ethereal, otherworldly feel. Wrapping up the EP is the iconic “Ice Cream,” another funky masterpiece designed with space bass influences to transport you to another planet.

Bangers[2].Zip – Released in 2019

This is my personal favorite installment, and for good reason. It kicks off with the absolutely iconic “Griztronics.” With its mind-bending sound design, this track doesn’t just send you to space—it launches you into an entirely different galaxy. Next up is “Freak the Method,” one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s a cinematic bass anthem with massive chord progressions that completely captivate the listener. Wrapping up the EP is “Push the Vibe,” a bouncy, infectious track guaranteed to get any dance floor moving.

GRiZ poured his heart and soul into his music, and it shows. From his expansive discography to his unwavering agenda of spreading love and positivity, his impact on the world is undeniable.
