Artist Spotlight: Mall Grab

Buzzing through the scene and tearing up dancefloors, Australian DJ and producer, Mall Grab is known worldwide for his distinguished musical abilities. His artistic finesse and production style continue to push the boundaries of electronic music and take him to whole new levels of success. Mall Grab’s iconic tracks take influences from all depths of edm, as he incorporates a vast blend of house and techno subgenres. His unique style comes from an experienced career and skillful ability to bring a nostalgic yet refreshing perspective into all of his music. 

Mall Grab, or Jordon Alexander’s exploratory musical mind began at a young age growing up in Newcastle, Australia, where he started off mixing his dads records and disco type records found “at the second-hand book shop.” (Duncan Dick, Mixmag) From there Jordon explored and experimented with all types of genres taken in from his surroundings. Mixing, producing, DJ competitions and more, Jordon was taking inspiration and crafting his sound. Eventually, this led him to creating tracks like “Can’t” and “Feel U,” which brought the vibes of one of Mall Grab’s original sounds, lo-fi house. The Feel U EP was Mall Grab’s first official record label drop and the kick starter of his career. 

Shortly after the release of the Feel U EP, in 2016 Jordon founded his first record label Steel City Dance Discs, with Jarred Kennedy and Jackson Fitzsimmons. That same year, Jordan moved to London which opened the doors to a whole new musical realm for him. Jordan took in all of what London had to offer, including the well established electronic dance music scene. To this day, you can hear the inspirations from old-school house, grime, jungle, UKG, techno and more, in Mall Grab’s music.

A couple years after his move to London, Mall Grab released How The Dogs Chill, Vol.1, which includes one of his most iconic tracks to date, “Liverpool Street In The Rain.” This EP was paired with the launch of his second record label Looking For Trouble. Since then Mall Grab has released an abundance of iconic singles and EP’s, each with its own unique sound, style, and experimental sound. Some of which include his 2015-2017 EP, “iluv” with Effy, and his debut studio album, What I Breathe. Mall Grab has a mind-boggling way of making each track its own unique beauty, each having so much depth and refreshing beats.

In addition to being a legendary producer, Mall Grab’s radiating and energetic stage presence is top tier. His live sets are dynamic, electric, and push his musical ability to a whole different level. Some of his most insane sets come from his Melbourne Boiler Room Set in 2022, Mixmag Lab London set in 2022, B2B set with Skin On Skin at Junction 2 Festival 2023, and more recently the 909 festival set in 2024. Mall Grab brings a distinct and original mix each time he plays live, taking listeners on a different journey each time.

Mall Grab is a renowned DJ and producer who works to continuously grow as an artist. His ability to incorporate so many influential genres into both his music and live sets is pure insanity. Mall Grab is on track to being an all time legend in the scene. Mall Grab live is something you simply can’t miss when you get the chance.
