The wonk wizard himself, Subtronics, just unleashed Fibonacci Pt. 1: Oblivion, a master crafted eight-track EP – and oh boy, it is HARD. Subtronics is fresh off his mainstage debut at Ultra during Miami Music Week (a rare feat for dubstep artists at the house/techno-dominated festival). When Ultra hands you mainstage keys as a dubstep artist, you know you’re doing something right.
Subtronics has been on a streak lately. Between demolishing Cyclops Desert at Rawhide with an all-original set (posting about how stoked he was to see fans lose their minds to a set of only his creations) and now dropping this monster of an EP, it’s clear: nobody’s pushing bass music forward like him. He’s been teasing fans for months, playing every track in his recent sets, from the brain-twisting sound design to those gnarly drops that put a bass face on anyone present.
Let’s break down the filth:
“Oblivion” – A portal to the underworld of bass
“Mothclaws” – A complete genre-bender
“Brass Danger” – Straight headbanger fuel
“Stratosphere” – The perfect brain scratch
“Lock In” x Wooli – The collab we all needed
“Brain Squeek” – Exactly what it sounds like
“Fibonacci (Part 1)” – Dubstep has never sounded so heavy
“Final Breath” (feat. A Little Sound) – A high-energy beautiful closer
And here’s the scary part: Pt. 2 is coming soon. No exact date yet, but if Pt. 1 is any indication, we’re in for another round of absolute carnage. Subtronics is constantly rewriting the rules and keeping that wonky magic alive, and we love it!
