YetepIf your mind isn’t already melting from the summer heat, PhaseOne’s new album, Terranova, will definitely get the job done.
Known for his unique “metalstep” style, Australian producer and DJ PhaseOne has gained recognition for his intricate sound design, relentless energy, and seamless genre fusion—and Terranova is no exception. This new addition to his discography pushes his craft even further, creating a cinematic experience unlike anything else in electronic music.
Terranova, meaning “new earth” or “new frontier” perfectly encapsulates the theme of the album. Released on May 30th, the album features a blend of dubstep, metalcore, and natural soundscapes that come together to create tracks that feel entirely fresh. PhaseOne’s expertise blasts through every bar, delivering a sonic journey that seamlessly transitions from genre to genre.
The album’s magic comes alive through the alchemy of its collaborators, making each track feel like a new chemical reaction.
Australian-based metalcore band, Make Them Suffer, lends their progressive metal sound to the track “SOS” to create a mosh pit-ready anthem. “Lullaby” featuring HVDES pairs the LA-based EDM producer’s haunting vocals with bass-driven brutality, resulting in a catchy song with crunchy bass.
Musician and songwriter, Scro, brings his “aggressive and melancholic” sound to “Shadows,” the last track in the album. It starts out feeling like a late night drive in the city, picks up quickly with a head bang-inducing breakdown, then tapers off with a nature-inspired soundscape to tie up the album. From start to finish, Terranova is a masterclass in genre fluidity and proof that electronic and heavy metal can both collide and coexist.
Terranova is one of those albums that is guaranteed to come alive in-person. Experience PhaseOne and Terranova in full force at one of his upcoming tour stops. Click the link for each venue below to learn more and purchase tickets:
If you’re a fan of heavy, experimental bass or just want to lean into those sadboi/madboi feelings, Terranova is a must-listen.
