YetepIconic Los Angeles House duo Ship Wrek has one of the most consistent discographies around. Producing incredible bops like “The Function,” “Lost in the Music,” and “Where Do I Belong” a darker twist on the House music genre and a collaboration with Disco Lines. The duo’s newest outing is “Mind on Beat,” a collaborative effort with actual twin brothers and producers Twin Diplomacy. Marius and Darius of Twin Diplomacy are also based out of Los Angeles. Crafting cerebral House jams with webby basslines and synths. Tropical drums and hard-hitting kicks are also mainstays in their discography.
“Mind on Beat” starts out with a distorted, robotic sample commanding the listener to “Keep your mind on the beat. Feel this rhythm, move your feet.” The wobbly bass weaves in and out on top of soaring synth bars and foot-tapping drums. Cascading like a champagne fountain. Various effects are spliced in, adding more melody, rhythm, and detail. The beat then accelerates with a racing drum build up, launching us into orbit alongside an asteroid belt. Kaleidoscopic instrumentals groove along with the steady House beat. The robotic sample returns. Folding in on itself along with the beat. This leads into an extra low-ended drop. With red searchlights and lasers radiating out. The song closes out with a previously unheard robotic hum and fuzzy frequencies.
“Mind on Beat” is a great introduction to the work of Twin Diplomacy and an expansion of Ship Wrek’s skills. The surreal album art matches the vibe perfectly. The infectious groove on this one results in an instant club and festival banger ready for dance floors everywhere.
