Dubstep Dive: ‘Voyd 2.5’ is More Than Just Remixes

After attending Voydome at the Tacoma Dome in Washington, I knew that this was going to be one of the best albums of all time. The first Voyd set of the year from Svdden Death also brought the announcement of VOYD Vol. 2.5, which fans had been speculating about for over a year since the release of VOYD Vol. II in 2022. VOYD Vol. 2.5 is much more than just remixes of the original album. Here is a look at the 6 new singles that accompanied the remixes on the album.

  1. Prelude I

The intro song on VOYD Vol. 2.5 is one that Svdden Death has been using as the intro for VOYD over the past couple of months and is one of the most insane new singles on the album. While that will be a recurring theme for most of these singles, “Prelude I” goes from a melodic and somewhat peaceful first few minutes into one of the most aggressive drops in dubstep.

  1. Creator

A total fan favorite, “Creator” has been one of the songs that has been making the rounds in the edm social media communities, and for good reason. There is nothing quite like the brooding and foreboding feeling that you get at the beginning of this song. It gives off a feeling that there is something big coming, and boy is there. Once this song gets going it does not stop. From the first drop, the tension keeps building until the erie drone which quickly leads into the second insane drop. Completely unique from the first, it is hard for me to choose between the two in which I like more.

  1. SYFM

Hearing this song for the first time was as close to a life changing experience as you can get when listening to music. My new all time favorite single, “SYFM” with Pyke holds nothing back. The third unique single on the album, “SYFM” has everything that a classic riddim or tearout song needs. From the choppy build up to the aggressive bass drop, it is hard not to jump into a mosh pit every time I hear this song. “SYFM” is one tune which once you experience it live, you can never listen to the same way. If you like riddim or dubstep just give this tune a try.

  1. Dark Matters

Dark Matters is one of the more unique songs released on the album. With signature highs and a thumping bass that drives the tempo, “Dark Matters” is one that will sneak up on you. It is creepy and dark with a twist that fits perfectly with the rest of the album.

  1. Forgotten Name

Another song that fans have been clamoring for, “Forgotten Name” is one of the turns that Svdden Death has been playing out almost as long as the rest of VOYD Vol. II. There are few things that I need to say about this song, just listening to it a single time is enough for any dubstep fan to at least understand the appeal. The amount of energy that is transferred from the speakers into your feet is electric. This tune gets the whole crowd headbanging and jumping.

  1. Epilogue

The most mild release on VOYD Vol. 2.5 is the “Epilogue”. A nice and relaxing breakdown from the insanity that is the rest of the album, “Epilogue” brings the energy back down and brings listeners back to their senses in a calming and soothing manner. After listening to the rest of the album, the break is well appreciated and a fantastic way to send listeners into the rest of their listening journey.
