Start Your Engines: CHYL Takes New ‘Pretty Race Girl’ EP on the Road to Tempe

Put on your helmets and zip up your racing jacket because CHYL is coming to Sunbar Tempe on August 22nd and she is bringing it. What is it you might ask? Her unique brand of speed house—a high octane experience that makes you want to get up and freakin’ dance. CHYL, pronounced “chill,” delivers a show that is anything but. One of the biggest emerging names in the speed house genre, CHYL’s sound feels like fighting a boss in Kingdom Hearts while sitting in the driver’s seat of a F1 race. Based in Los Angeles, CHYL was originally on track to become a finance professional with a degree from Columbia University, but decided to pull a u-turn and invest her time in DJing and production instead. It paid off and CHYL has become a sought after artist, playing notable fests like EDC and Countdown.

CHYL has not only created a unique sound, but has developed a brand all her own that leans heavily on racing aesthetics. Her new EP Pretty Race Girl (released on June 20th) expands on this and brings in some fun collabs, resulting in energetic and empowering tracks. 

The EP kicks it into high gear with the eponymous first track, “Pretty Race Girl.” CHYL and S3RL come together on this collaborative new version of S3RL’s classic rave anthem, “Pretty Rave Girl.” It plays homage to the original track’s UK garage roots with S3RL’s punchy kicks, energetic tempo, and pitched vocals combined with CHYL’s signature heavier bass drops to make an undeniably catchy track. CHYL puts her own fresh spin on the track with new lyrics, “I know this pretty race girl, always revving my world, and when she says hi to me heartbeats are racing through me.”

Just when you think the energy can’t get any higher, CHYL hits the NOS in her next tracks. “Crazy” is a collab with singer Staarz that pairs her haunting vocals with the the driving intensity that makes CHYL’s speed house sound so iconic. “Make Believe” is a dreamy yet explosive song that smoothly shifts from a punchy bassline to trap-inspired hi hats to stutter house vocals with ease. CHYL’s EP features more collabs with K?D, Bianca, and TWISTED that come together to create a turbo-charged addition to her discography.
