Relentless Beats

Steller Drops Surreal Masterpiece, ‘The Here & Now EP’!

Standout artist Steller is on a hot streak, playing numerous festivals and rapidly increasing her following. One of these festivals includes Relentless Beats’ own Goldrush: The Return to the West. She is also known for her incredible collaborations with artists like Jaenga and Zingara.

Her newest drop is an EP titled Here & Now, a masterclass in spiritual & cerebral wubs. The EP begins with the title track, featuring a sample from famed British philosopher Alan Watts, adding an extra layer of spirituality to the track. Electronic chime notes vibe with eclectic stardust effects that gently rain down over the soundscape. Marching band-like drum fills help establish the song’s rhythm. Echoing “here for you” vocals and rapid drums lead to the first drop. The stardust rains down even harder, as mid tempo wubs and intergalactic clicks take center stage. Alan Watts joins the party once again, building hype for the second drop. The clicks and drop differ slightly from the first drop. Growing near-silent with harps, keyboards and vocals. Fading out in glory and giving us a taste of the EP’s vibes.

“Downslide” is the second track and features underrated wub wizard Seth David, whose incredible set at Darkstar made me an immediate fan. “Downslide” is a wonky and diverse bop with dope instrumentals and infectious, buzzing basslines. Steller’s iconic tropical horn instruments add a pleasant Florida twist to the song. Proudly representing Steller’s home turf. Bombastic drums bounce off of the horn section, as a wonky haze gradually forms underneath it. “Downslide” also features the Reggae/Dub note that Dubstep draws inspiration from. Cybernetic bass, alien transmissions, and THICK wubs all clash at once. Creating an incredible shuffling vibe. Clap effects form into full-bodied drums to build hype for the second drop. This drop features the aforementioned buzzing basslines. The tropical notes and alien transmission remain before gradually fading out with a haze. Bringing us “back down to earth.”

“Down With You” is up next, starting out with gorgeous melodies and vocals. Hip-hop like drums break the tension, welcoming in the gradually shifting elements. The first drop is super wobbly, switching between crunchy bass and stretchy wubs with ease. Subtle chimes roll back into the rising hip-hop like beat. Drawing contrast between the ‘verses’ and drops. The next drop features Steller’s patented ghostly warbling and even more wubs. Waiting until the second half to bring back the buzzes and ending with the intro’s melody.

Here and Now’s final track is “Eternal Love,” a surreal journey through space and time. This track also appears to feature an Alan Watts sample. Once again expanding the EP’s spiritual nature. Two layers of Beautiful vocals dance along with steady drums and clicks. The song’s first drop is perhaps the most melodic on the list. Tuning down the heavier notes to focusing on the melodies. The buzzes and wubs are still featured, leaving Steller’s unique fingerprint. Sweeping melodies and a low-key buzz bring in the heavier second drop. Featuring headbang worthy vibes and YUHHHS. The melodies launch the listener into the stars. “Eternal Love” ends with gorgeous chimes, distorted samples, and a beat that moves like an electronic harp. Concluding this incredible EP on a lighter note.

This EP expands on Steller’s sound, while still keeping to the core of her creative process. She has improved on balancing heavy wubs with memorable melodies. “Here and Now” is an excellent introduction to Steller’s music and a treat for longtime fans alike. Listen now and take this one-of-a kind journey for yourself. And don’t miss out on seeing her live at Goldrush: The Return to the West, taking place September 12th and 13th. Grab your tickets here!
