Zeds Dead: A Journey of a Lifetime

Before Zeds Dead became one of the biggest names in bass music, DC and Hooks (the iconic duo) were two producers digging through records and trading samples in Toronto. The pair began working together in the late 2000s before officially becoming Zeds Dead in 2009, quickly developing a sound that refused to fit neatly into one genre. Dubstep, drum and bass, hip-hop, house, electro and everything in between became part of their vocabulary, helping establish the duo as one of the most versatile acts in electronic music. By 2013, they were already touring more than 70 dates a year and had accumulated hundreds of millions of online views, but their influence would extend far beyond their own music. Releases like Somewhere Else and Northern Lights pushed their sound to a wider audience, with Northern Lights reaching the Top 10 of Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and earning a JUNO nomination. “Lost You” also took home the Best Post-Production award at the 2015 MuchMusic Video Awards, marking one of the many moments where Zeds Dead proved that bass music could exist comfortably alongside the wider world of electronic and popular music.

Perhaps Zeds Dead’s greatest accomplishment, however, has been the world they built around their music. In 2016, the duo launched Deadbeats, transforming their own artist platform into one of the most influential independent labels and communities in modern bass music. Over the past decade, Deadbeats has helped introduce artists like Subtronics, PEEKABOO, 1788-L and DNMO to a much wider audience. Meanwhile Deadbeats Radio, the We Are Deadbeats compilations, Deadbeats Takeovers and the legendary Deadrocks events have turned the brand into something far bigger than a record label. Deadrocks itself has become a yearly pilgrimage for Zeds Dead fans, with the 2026 edition selling more than 30,000 tickets across four events including nights at Red Rocks Amphitheater. At the center of it all has always been Zeds Dead’s willingness to evolve. Even 15 years into their career, the duo surprised fans in July with Return to the Return (of the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness), their third studio album and a continuation of the cinematic universe introduced on their 2025 album.

Now, Zeds Dead are closing one of the biggest chapters of their story with Journey of a Lifetime, their largest headlining tour to date. While this isn’t a breakup or a permanent goodbye, the tour represents the end of the current era before the duo takes time off the road in 2027. The pair have described it as the “grand finale” of everything they have been working toward, promising a full-catalog experience spanning their earliest MySpace releases and Bassmentality-era edits through platinum-certified records, festival-defining anthems and their newest cinematic work. After 15 years of constantly evolving, Zeds Dead are giving their fans one massive send-off to the era that built them. Not an ending, but the end of the beginning. For longtime fans, it is a chance to relive the entire journey, for anyone discovering Zeds Dead for the first time, there may never be a better moment to understand why DC and Hooks have become such an important part of electronic music history.
