Tape B’s Debut Album, ‘Ghosts in the Static,’ Is a Perfect Mix of Old & New School

MON, OCT 5, 2026

Tape B is bringing the sound of classic dubstep roaring back to life with Ghosts in the Static, his debut 12-track album. Built around the raw, heavyweight sound that helped shape his love for bass music, the project feels like a trip back to the era when dubstep was at its grittiest. “Hold Em In Check” wastes no time leaning into that energy, hitting with the kind of stripped back bass production that has made dubstep the genre that it is today. “Think About It” keeps that momentum going, adding another dose of the darker, heavier sound. This old school, 2010s substep sound is prevalent throughout the release and brings longtime dubstep fans back to their roots. Across Ghosts in the Static, Tape B taps into the dubstep that inspired him while putting his own modern spin on the sound.

“Signature Sound” might be one of the album’s biggest throwback moments. The collaboration with Atlanta production legend Zaytoven was directly inspired by the famous UKF dubstep tutorial, with Tape B aiming for the sound and feeling of the 2010–2012 era. Zaytoven kicks off the track by talking through his production process before Tape B turns those ideas into a massive bass-driven drop. Bells, stabs and wubs become the ingredients for one of the album’s most distinctive moments. The track also has some history in Tape B’s live sets, serving as the intro to his sets during his fall 2025 bus tour and into his nation-wide tour in 2026 before finally arriving as part of Ghosts in the Static.

“Underneath Your Skin” featuring Dani King brings a different flavor to the album without sacrificing any of its weight. The track spent more than three years in development, with Tape B repeatedly revisiting the production before settling on the final version. Dani King’s vocals give the record a more atmospheric edge before Tape B pulls listeners back into the song with a heavy bass drop. It is a strong example of the range running through Ghosts in the Static, where vocals can have moments that can sit alongside the same massive dubstep sound which dominates the project.

That balance is what makes Ghosts in the Static hit so hard. “Hold Em In Check,” “Signature Sound,” “Underneath Your Skin” and “Think About It” each highlight a different part of Tape B’s sound, but they all connect back to the same foundation of heavy bass, classic dubstep influence, and the energy of the music that came before. Tape B has spent years building a bridge between the old-school sounds that inspired him and the modern bass scene. Ghosts in the Static puts that idea into a full-length project and is the debut album for one of the hottest names in the dubstep scene for over a year. For anyone who grew up on the raw dubstep of the mid-2010s, the album feels familiar in all the right ways while still sounding built for the systems and stages of today.
