YetepThe melodic dubstep scene has been largely quiet without the man who developed a slow-burning style that eases fans into a reverberating trance. The Scotland DJ and producer first emerged in the scene as Blackmill at the beginning of 2010 when EDM began to bloom with a fervor. He developed his own little era of wispy melodies and divided drum patterns that made waves in the scene so gracefully the largely dormant community blossomed with him. Born Robert Card’s last release was 4 years ago with “Gaia,” but now we (finally) give him a warm welcome with his latest official release “Redemption.” Sticking to that traditional Blackmill sound, while creatively developing a new twist, his latest track is wholly ethereal and centralized. Booming with that feeling of soaring over it all, “Redemption” fuels that deep craving of Blackmill we secretly knew we were missing. Out now on his YouTube and SoundCloud, listen below.
With the release of Ellie Goulding’s “Your Song” remix which reached #1 on Hype Machine in 2010, we first saw a glimpse of this invariably underground producer. A year later he dropped his first album, Reach For Glory, immediately followed by Miracle. Tracks like “Let It Be,” “Evil Beauty,” and “Spirit of Life” found their way onto every playlist for ultimate relaxation and appreciation of sound. He developed a few tracks thereafter, but ultimately fell quiet of official releases in 2015. But Blackmill couldn’t let us leave his revolutionary decade of music behind without a taste of what’s to come. With intent to release more music next year, we can find solace in “Redemption.”
