YetepSubtronics has been truly captivating to witness, demonstrating that he possesses endless potential. In an industry where artists often deviate from their authentic selves, Subtronics remains a rare exception, staying true to his unique style. Continuously pushing boundaries, he appears to be in a never-ending creative mode, evident in the consistent release of new VIPs, songs, and doubles during his sets.
Through his two full-length albums, Fractals and Tesseract (excluding AntiFractals due to its remix-heavy nature), Subtronics showcases his mastery of sound design, utilizing the ample space provided by a full-length album to experiment and grow. Let’s delve into both albums, highlighting remarkable tracks and tracing his artistic evolution.
This album propelled Subtronics into the spotlight, a position he has consistently maintained. Kicking off with a non-dubstep track was a bold move, and “O.P.U.S.” stands out with its inspiration drawn from a man on a rooftop, in the rain, shouting to the universe that he cannot be stopped—a sentiment powerfully captured in the track. Classics like “Spacetime,” “Take Flight VIP,” “Griztronics 2,” and “Gassed Up” have become timeless, while ventures into the space bass world with tracks like “Flute Dub” and “Tuba Demon” showcased his other side of production, all while retaining his signature aggressive bass style. A standout track, “Into Pieces,” featuring vocals from Grabbitz, carries deep emotional meaning. For those who haven’t revisited this album lately, it’s worth the journey.
Following up on the success of Fractals and AntiFractals, Subtronics masterfully delivers Tesseract, offering a glimpse into the future of dubstep. Opening with “Cottage Gore” was a strategic move, as it was the first drop for many of his sets in the latter half of 2023. Notable dubstep tracks such as “Amnesia,” “Parabola Paradox,” and “Asteroid” stand out, while explorations into space bass wook roots with tracks like “Afternoon Coffee” and “Black Ice” showcase his versatility. “Omnidirectional” is a prime example of breaking dubstep stereotypes, maintaining heaviness while innovatively presenting a sonic experience that still packs a punch.
Subtronics shows no signs of slowing down, currently blazing through his Tesseract Tour with fresh VIPs, new songs, and doubles that promise to obliterate any crowd lucky enough to witness it. If the opportunity arises to see him live, seize it without hesitation!
