Electronic music exudes creativity, and it’s what I enjoy most about the genre. While most songs you hear on the radio have a nice, fun feel to them—something you can sing along to—EDM can get spacey, with sounds that tickle your brain and take you to another dimension. These songs are perfect for everyday listening because they keep life fresh and inject a new world right into your ears. Recently, these spacey sounds have been picking up popularity in mainstream EDM, with popular artists such as Four Tet and Tiesto playing songs that tickle your brain. I wanted to take the chance to share five songs that are absolute must-adds to your playlist. I hope you discover something new!
“Bug Eater” by AHEE
AHEE is one of the rising stars, with his textured, pointed space bass taking over the scene, supported by major artists such as Four Tet. This song showcases his signature sound, and while spacey, has a very clear tone that tears through the space dimension. This song is perfect for grooving and is a great introduction to the space bass world!
“The Beginning” by Sullivan King
Jump Up, a space bass-influenced DNB subgenre, has taken America by storm, and Sullivan King shows his take on the genre. This song has amazing vocals and arrangement. The first part of the drop seems like a normal metal-influenced DNB drop, and then he hits you with sounds seemingly made as if a bubble machine combined with a pulsar beam. This is a must-add!
“Flip It – VIP” by Levity, Dem Jointz
Levity has risen up the ranks, in part due to their signature muted space bass dubstep, and this song truly elevates them to the next level. Not only do you have their signature sound in the first drop, soaring over an infectious quick beat, but you also have them turning back time with deep, gnarly old school dubstep sounds in the second drop, leaving any listener in awe!
A collab for the ages, this song showcases why each artist is renowned for their work. This song is truly a journey, taking you to every edge of space, with incredible production to move between worlds seamlessly. This song is best listened to in the car or with great speakers, as the low end really creates another dimension for you to step into.
“Hands In The Air – VIP” by Rusko, Mozey
Last but not least, another Jump Up song had to make this list. For years, Rusko was pushing DNB into the States, and this song shows why he was successful during that brief genre switch in his career. This song is the definition of brain-tickling, as the Jump Up beat seemingly guides you into another universe with its sharp, unexpected sounds that get you dancing.
