YetepFinlay Dow-Smith, professionally known as Starsmith, is a british songwriter, record producer, and DJ best known for co-writing and producing Lights with Ellie Goulding. The album had instant commercial success topping the UK charts and sold over 2,000,000 copies globally. He continued to work with Ellie Goulding afterwards and contributed to many other hits with artists such as Zedd, Kehlani, Paloma Faith, and more. He hasn’t released a solo single since 2011, but now he’s back with “Leave Me Slowly.”
“Leave Me Slowly” is an emotional garage track co-written with Ellie Goulding and Sarah Troy. According to Starmith’s Instagram post, he worked around an acapella that Ellie sent on WhatsApp then produced the basic outline within a day. Starsmith credits the inspiration of the track to “the creatively naive days of working with acapellas found online/remix competitions” and “the beginning of this song felt just like that.” Sarah Troy helped complete the lyrics and melody while Jake Dow-Smith is credited with the artwork.
The song was released by Headroom Records and Another Rhythm Records. Since it’s release it has managed to land Spotify editorials such as New Music Friday, All New Dance, Dance Rising, and more. The track also landed Future Dance Hits on Apple, Rave Revolution on Deezer, and Fresh EDM on Amazon Music. If Starsmith continues releasing more music like this, I’m sure he’ll be headlining tours of his own before long.
