YetepAlbums are a labor of love and offer a glimpse into an artist’s universe where they create entirely new worlds. With a full-length album, an artist can truly flex their creative muscles, crafting a more cohesive piece compared to a single or an EP. Because of that, an EDM album is often dynamic, exploring different facets of an artist’s style beyond just their primary genre.
Welcome to “The Greatest Album by Album” series, where we dive into albums that I believe belong in the top echelon of the industry.
Louis the Child – Candy Beat Tape 2 – Released in 2020
Louis the Child are magicians when it comes to musical production. They are true superstars in the EDM world, and it shows whenever they release music—which fortunately is quite often. Starting their career with a heavy focus on future trap, they have since transitioned more into house, all while maintaining their authenticity and mastery throughout the evolution of their discography. As they continue to rise in the industry, they consistently lead with creativity, bringing joy to any fan lucky enough to see them live. I can’t speak highly enough about Louis the Child, especially when it comes to their Candy 2 Beat Tape album.
In late 2020, half a year after the COVID pandemic began, Louis the Child graced the world with their Candy 2 Beat Tape album, a continuous album showcasing their incredible production skills. Creating a continuous album (meaning all songs flow seamlessly into the next) with completely new music is a feat not many artists attempt. This album highlights their future trap expertise, with the first song, “The Sh*T,” as a true standout. This melody cascades like water flowing down a stream and is a true work of art. Other standout tracks include “I Had Just Woken Up From A Short Nap” and “Parashoes,” both with infectious beats that will get you dancing. My favorite from the album is “Starlights,” a song that combines their future trap past with their house-leaning future, creating an incredible hybrid track that stands out. This album is perfect for putting on while doing chores or listening to on a long drive—it’s a journey worth taking.
Louis the Child have proven they are here to stay. They are about to embark on a unique “daytime” tour, which should be a joy to experience without worrying about bedtime. They are stopping at Rawhide for what is a can’t-miss show—get your tickets here!
